NAEB has shipped all of the first 100 units, except for a couple. We wish to thank everyone for their support and patience while we worked out our problems.

We are starting to take order for the next 100 pieces shipping late March.

NAEB is going to survive.

We've dodged a bullet by getting a bail out that will enable us to buy the first order of readers from Bookeen and free the necessary funds from E-OnLine Data. We'll be able to use the original payment plan of 1/2 on order and the other 1/2 on shipping which will make everything much simpler.

PayPal is now refunding all of you who placed an order through it's service ( Which NAEB is going to cancel just as soon as that's finished. ) and we'll be using the checks you send us to pay back the loan. More importantly, having proven our track record we'll be able re-open the store and take orders for the next lot of readers, on line, without fear of any repeats.

We're amazed and grateful for the trust and generosity that made this possible.

If our benefactors give their consent we'll tell you their names otherwise we'll respect their wish for privacy but they are your friends as well as ours and your checks are what NAEB will use to pay them back with.

Here's what's gong to happen.

We order the readers by end of this week, the beginning of next with 1/2 paid.
When Bookeen tells us they're ready to ship we pay the other 1/2.

We get them and send them on to the buyers. The funds freed will be used to pay back the loan. The delay will come as the checks used to replace the PayPal orders clear the bank.

Bookeen will be getting the second shipment of readers later in February.
We'll be able to accept credit charges for up to 30 days before we'll have to start over again when the charge is canceled so we will be carefully timing our acceptance of credit card charges to match Bookeen's shipping schedule. This will not affect checks and money orders so you can send them to us at any time.

This will also require some changes in our email notification since we will be selling from each shipment as Bookeen receives it till we get to the 1000 mark. If any of you remained concerned about us sitting on nearly $400,000 for an indefinite period, relax, it's not going to be happening.

Thank you all for believing in us.

NAEB is in a bind, a major one, and it's going to be determined within the next few days whether or not we just return your money to all of you or continue in business.

As you know we're a buyer's club.
We perform like one for the purpose of buying ebook readers.

What this means, in the rarefied world of PayPal and E-Online is that we're just too "hinky" to be trusted.

PayPal just thinks we're weird. To quote their representative " We're not comfortable with your business model."

E-Online has done us the stunning compliment of bouncing us over to their Loss & Recovery people; they think we're running a scam. Both have frozen our accounts. This means that they will refund your money, minus their processing fees, if we agree to close up shop and go away.

Neither is willing to let us actually pay Bookeen.
Of course if we can't pay Bookeen, and get the ebook readers to deliver, we're proved as an untrustworthy lot who planned to defraud our club members.

If you're thinking Catch-22 you have it about right.

We have a limited number of ways to get out of this.

One would be with a LoC (Line Of Credit) from the Bank Of America. We can't use that option. It would put NAEB on a debt treadmill that would destroy it almost as soon as we began and it could mean personal bankruptcy for whoever co-signed for it.

The other is with an appeal to Bookeen.

Not all the money is tied up with either E-Online or PayPal as those of you who have paid with Discover or Amex cards, as well as those of you who have trusted us enough to send checks, are not caught in this.

So we will be asking PayPal and E-Online to accept proof of payment and delivery of the ebook readers paid for with those funds as proof of our honorable, and competent, intent even though NAEB doesn't look like the retail merchant they're used to dealing with ( Hmmnnn.... Could that be because we aren't ?).

We will be asking Bookeen to change the terms of payment for this reason.

Instead of the 1/2 when ordered and the other 1/2 when shipped we're going to ask them for NET15, which means we owe them the full amount for the first lot of orders within 15 days so we can ship them to buyers and then we're going to use the proof of that to pry the rest of the money from PayPal and E-Online.

PayPal and E-Online, if they decide to let us do so, may then just cut us off completely or they may decide that we're legitimate after all and allow us to continue.

This is where we are at present.

If it they accept and allow us to continue, we're back in business and will continue to ship ebooks till we get to 1000.

If it they don't, well we tried and if you don't get a reader you get your money back.

What the attendant delays have done to NAEB's chances of on going survival; how many people didn't sign with us since you can't run an online buyers club without on line means of payment or because they just didn't want to take the chance; well, I'm sure it's nothing good.

We've turned it around before and we'll do our best to turn it around this time as well.

Hello Everyone,

NAEB's store is now open.

November 2007

Hello Everyone,

I won't try your patience one second further here is what everyone wants to know about the NAEB order :

The reader with it's own battery + 1 USB cable + 1 USB AC charge device + 1 cover + 1 SD card 1 GB + earphones. $375 USD plus shipping and handling (S&H) and tax where applicable

Here is the Bookeen home page for anyone who wants to do any checking : http://www.bookeen.com/ebook/ebook-reading-device.aspx This is the deluxe version and it's $75 less bought through us than it is bought retail : http://www.bookeen.com/shop/ebook-shop.aspx

Ordering 1000 readers at a time gives us a price break and we pass that price break along to you. This is what a buyers club does and that's what we're doing.

We will be contacting everyone who has signed up with us if you haven't done so before please do so now. This, our first shipment, is limited to 1000 readers. That's all we can reasonably deal with for now.

Shipping and Handling will be the US prices for sending the readers out and here we have to be very clear about something. If you're in the euro zone order the reader direct from Bookeen. If you order it through us the combination of taxes and shipping cost will send the price past any savings you might have achieved.

Since you're going to be trusting NAEB with your personal information I'm stating NAEB's Privacy Policy now :

Your personal information will not be sold, ever.

For dealing with your credit card information we're going to be using the system CDBaby does :

Your credit card info is never stored, and never seen by anyone. We don't store it in your permanent customer info. The card number is erased immediately after the sale, for extra protection. There is nothing of yours here to steal.

Now NAEB looks a little strange to banks ( You'd swear we were loan shopping instead of trying to open a basic business account. ) who, apparently, don't get how people can work together on the internet even when a whole continent separates them. In retrospect, incorporating in Nevada was a mistake also since none of us live there and banks in NY don't really want to deal with any group that's not incorporated in the tri-state area. California has no such reservastions, since Nevada is its' neighbor, so Derek has just become the treasurer and our banking gets moved from NY to CA.

That's it for now.
The next missive is going to read "You can send the money now".
